The 2010 Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade was held on December 11, 2010 in downtown Danville. The theme of the parade was Community Christmas Spirit. Our float, aptly named, "The Spirit of Our Community", was awarded the Corporate Cup! This is the highest honor for businesses that created floats for the parade.
Our float took the form of a city street which depicted three core virtues which are evident in our community. The first, Faith, was expressed by Christmas carolers in front of a chapel. Hope was seen in the eyes of a new mother and father brining home the gift of new life. They are filled with anticipation of what the future holds for their family, just as our community awaits a prosperous future in coming days, years and generations. Charity is perhaps the most apparent virtue displayed in our community. In this part of Virginia there is rarely a shortage of people too busy to help someone in need. There are so many organizations right here in our community that make a huge difference in people's lives on a daily basis. But it always starts with a single person reaching out to help another expecting nothing in return. Our float featured a little Food Bank to express this. It was our hope that parade goers were encouraged to share their own faith, their hope, and charity to better the community that we know and love.
The idea for building a float started with Ruben Cardwell, credit union member and member of the Eastside Ryders Motorcycle Club. Dan Veasey of Piedmont CU said, "I had no idea we would build a float until Ruben approached me with the idea in October. It was incredibly difficult, but lots of fun as well. It was great to come together with new and old friends to make it happen."
The Corporate Cup will be on display at the credit union until next year's Christmas Parade when it will once again be up for grabs. For more photos of the float at the parade and during construction visit our facebook page at www.facebook.com/piedmontcu.

Bad Advice About Credit Repair
During my late nights working on the more detailed parts of our Christmas Parade float I had the television on to keep me company. I was amazed at the message of some commercials that promoted the idea of repairing your poor credit by purchasing and financing a new car. Effectively they said the answer to all your credit dilemmas is to borrow more money! This could not be farther from the truth. The truth is...
