There are hundreds of people in our community for whom “A Life Like Yours” may seem an unattainable goal. These are people affected by developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome, and others. These individuals many times need a little more help to become self sufficient participants in our community.
The Arc of Southside promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
This fall Piedmont Credit Union is pleased to join in their mission by providing a platform to showcase their good work and raise awareness about how all of us can become involved in helping this often overlooked part of our community.
We're coming up on what many people consider their favorite time of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas bring along with them wonderful memories and the opportunity to make more memories with family and friends. But this is also a favorite season for crooks who see an opportunity, not to make memories, but to make off with your money!
"This time of year there seems to always be an increase in text messages and emails that try to trick you into giving away your Check Card number.", said Joan Wood, Share Draft Coordinator at Piedmont Credit Union.
One common trick is for someone to send you a text message which directs you to call a telephone number to activate your card. Other tricks used by scammers might be an email claiming to be from a legitimate organization like Facebook, Barnes & Noble, Linked In, or Fill in the Blank Financial Institution.
The best way to combat these types of fraudulent text messages and emails is to NEVER follow their directions or click on their links. Instead call the phone number that you KNOW, or go to the organization's website directly to confirm whether or not the instructions are legitimate or if they are indeed fraudulent.
Of course if you ever suspect that you might have "given" your card number to crook, let us know as soon as possible so that we take measures to stop them in their tracks and you can focus on making memories this holiday season.
Come out and see the spectacular floats at this years' Christmas Parade. Piedmont Credit Union will again enter a float, this time in partnership with the MDA Lego Build-Off. We hope that your spirits are lifted as our Christmas Toyland comes to life on Main Street!
The parade starts at 6pm on December 8th at Broad Street. From there it goes down Main Street all the way to Ridge Street ending at Galileo High School.
If you would like to contribute to this effort or be part of our float in any way please contact Dan Veasey at the credit union. You can call 434-797-1954 ext 301 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
More than $1,480 was raised to benefit our local Danville Pittsylvania Habitat for Humanity at Septembers Build A Better World Disc Golf Tournament.

Piedmont Credit Union loan officer Mealie Scott has done plenty to make this world a better place. For the past 12 years Mealie has poured her heart and soul into serving credit union members. During this time she has won the hearts of thousands of members with her caring demeanor, a sharp wit, and willingness to always go the extra mile.
It is with great sadness, yet also with great gratitude and excitement that we wish Mealie well in the next chapter of her life. She has announced that she will retire at the end of 2012. She will always have a place here at the credit union as well as a place in our hearts.
We also hope that you will join us on December 18th for what we have declared to be...
