Easter Holiday Closing,   Mar. 18, 2008

Piedmont Credit Union will be closed on Monday, March 23, 2008 in celebration of Easter.

On Thursday February 14, 2008, Piedmont Credit Union partnered with credit union across Virginia to help raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.  Credit Union staff brought in desserts which were offered to members who contributed at least $1.  Overall our members raised $170!  All proceeds have been sent to our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, which is in Lynchburg, VA. Thanks to everyone who helped to support this great cause.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our recent Help for the Homeless Drive.  The shelter was very pleased to receive the many items that our members contributed.  Some members even went as far as to make financial contributions as well.

If you would still like to support our local Homeless Shelter with either goods or financial contributions they may be reached at (434) 799-3671.  The directors name is Cindy Hill.  Thanks again for making a difference!

Two new companies have begun to offer Piedmont Credit Union to their employees. We are pleased to welcome the employees of Goodwill Industries and Liggett Vector Brands.

Goodwill Industries employees over 200 employees in their nine stores.  They have stores in Danville, Chatham, Altavista, South Hill, Chase City, and even as far away as Blackstone, VA.  Liggett Vector Brands is a major cigarette manufacturer based out of Mebane, NC.  They have a storage facility in Danville.

Both of these companies are more than 100 years old and have long and rich histories!

For several years the credit union has had a relationship with First State Bank to waive ATM charges for each other's members/customers. This bank has recently taken down a few of their ATMs including those at our local mall.  The two ATMs at Piedmont Mall are no longer owned by First State Bank and are no longer free to credit union members.  First State customers may still use the ATM at our main office for free and PCU cards will still work for free at their main office.

The credit union has many other ATM locations in Danville as well as access to a Nationwide Free ATM network called cuHere.  A Piedmont CU Check Card(debit card) is another great way to access your money quickly and securely.  Members who have their checking account at the credit union may request a debit card at no charge.

Today marks the 59th annual International Credit Union Day!  This is a day when credit unions around the world celebrate the good that credit unions have accomplished over the last 150 years.  This years theme is "Together We're Better!"  This emphasizes the cooperative nature of credit unions both with their members and together with other credit unions.

It is always a good time to start using what some have called the best service ever offered by our credit union, Online Billpay. But now is better than ever! Christmas Clubs will automatically transfer to their associated savings accounts on October 15, 2007.  After that you may access the funds at your convenience.  If you need a check mailed to you just contact a member service representative.

This is also the best time to start a Christmas Club for next year.  To do so just contact a member service representative.  You can save as much or as little as you like.

Verified by Visa adds a new layer of security and protection to your Check Card. PCU credit cards have had this protection available to them for some time, but now it has been extended to our check cards as well! Specifically this new feature lets you create a personal password for your check card which is required to make online purchases. If you shop online at a merchant that utilizes Verified by Visa it will require you to enter your password before completing the transaction.

This way, even in the event that your card number is stolen or compromised, purchases still cannot be made without the password.

There is no charge to add this feature to your check card or credit card. To enable Verified by Visa for your check card simply visit this Verified by Visa website and click on "Register Now" then follow the remaining instructions. Email to a Friend

Starting in September our Visa Check Cards will have the added protection of Verified by Visa.   Our credit cards have had this protection for some time, but now it is also extended to Check Cards (aka. The first three recipients of the Dr. Harold Henry Scholarship have been chosen.  The recipients are:

• Mandy Matherly, a sophomore Biotechnology major at James Madison University.

• Bradley Harris, a freshman Engineering major at Virginia Tech.

• Tamela Warren, a freshman English and Education major at Hampton University.

Each student will receive a $500 scholarship paid to the school on their behalf. Congratulations and best wishes next fall!
