Building A Better World

On October 5, 2013 Piedmont Credit Union hosted the 3rd Annual Build a Better World Disc Golf Tournament. Once again businesses and members of the community came out to support the local charity of choice, Danville-Pittsylvania County Habitat for Humanity.  When all was said & done more than $2,000 was raised to their benefit!

Many players commented that this was one of the best local disc golf tournaments they have participated in.  Special thanks to our tournament co-sponsors whose names appear below.

The first place team was Captain D’s.  James Shelton, Austin Brodin, Kevin Tyburski and Michael Terry finished with a collective score of 15 under par.  Team CAOS & DiscIT were right behind them at 12 and 11 under par, respectively.  After a delicious lunch served by Outback Steakhouse individual competition commenced.  The winner of the Advanced Level was the local favorite and reigning U.S. Amateur Doubles Champion, Ken Tyburski, with a score of 7 under par.  Austin Brodin took 2nd place at 1 under par.  The Recreational Level was won by Dwayne Young.  Tying for second place were Kelley Brande and James Evans.  George Waller and Justin Keatts took 1st & 2nd place in the Beginner Level competition.

While there was great fun and friendly competition, the greatest take away from this year’s tournament was the benefit to Habitat for Humanity, an organization that helps people right here in our community to overcome the effect of poverty on their lives.  If you would like to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity simply give them a call at 434-793-3630 or visit
